Vice Sheet - January 2002 by Sallie Banko, Region 2 RVC |
Now's the time to start thinking about how you can become more involved!
How, you ask? Let me tell you of a few ways:
CultureQuest, the annual Mensa trivia contest will soon take place.
Grab four friends (or any other four people for that matter - as long as
they are good with trivia) for a team of five. Rustle up $40 (many Local
groups are more than willing to provide this, as they reap the rewards if
you win). Entries must be received at the National Office by April 1 (no
fooling!). You can get more details, a registration form and a copy of the
rules from your LocSec, RVC, the national websight, or from the national office.
Volunteer to be part of the national Nominating Committee, Each local
group can have one representative on this committee. More specifically,
each group can have as many people as they like working with this person,
but each group can only have one person named as a voting member of the
national Committee. If the group does not submit a name, they will not be
represented on the nominating committee. If you are interested in serving
as the local group's representative, contact your LocSec. I will be
contacting each group's LocSec early in March for the name of that group's
representative.
Attend an RG. There are many scheduled throughout the year - and
throughout the country. And in my opinion, our region has some of the
great ones! And speaking of RG's, you'll soon have an opportunity to not
only enjoy one, but at the same time have a chance to meet, watch, and
talk to the current AMC members. Or you can tease them by coming to observe
the AMC meeting and then leaving the meeting - something they cannot do.
Just think how much more you can enjoy all that Snowball offers knowing
that those of us on the AMC are stuck in a meeting all day. (Have SOME
pity on us - stop by and drop off chocolate every once in a while!)
I'd like to thank all of you who are already very much involved:
LocSecs, Editors, Area Coordinators, SIGHT Coordinators, Treasurers,
Proctors, and all those other officers - all of which help a local
group exist. My thanks also to those who help run RGs, volunteer to
help out with the scholarship program, host local events, or in any
other way help to make things happen. Thank you for all you do. Without
you, Mensa would not exist. So now go out and enjoy your handiwork!
