RVC2 - My Two Bits - September 2003
by Ed Gordon, RVC Region 2

Well, it will be September by the time you read this, and summer will be winding down. It has been quite a summer in the Gordon household, we had a great time at the AG, celebrated our fifth anniversary, visited Congressional offices on Capitol Hill on several occasions, and generally enjoyed being in America. Details on some of exploits are available on the website, www.edgor.com, with the AG information at www.edgor.com/Mensa/AG2003.

I am being kept very busy with the management of my career, as well as coming up to speed on the process of being RVC. As stated before, the IEEE is also keeping me busy, and it is quite an education and an adventure, the passages are twisty, but they are definitely not all alike!

At any rate, I am assembling my Region 2 staff, and it is going quite well. Marc Lederman is both Webmaster and LDW Coordinator. He has plunged right into the task of organizing and we are in the process of scheduling an LDW for the spring of 2004. With his help, we are planning on one for 2004 that is in the northern part of the region, in the Philadephia area. For 2005, we will try to organize one in the south, and will start looking in the Richmond area. Remember to follow the progress at: www.region2.us.mensa.org.

Dr. Sheila Gross will be contacting you soon regarding the MERF Scholarship drive. She is going to need several things. First, her schedule is tight, so she has requested that I find an assistant for her, so that she can offload some of the work, and she is willing to mentor this individual. In addition, the search is on for judges. Scholarships are given on the local, regional and national level, so that judging is performed at all 3 levels, and judges are required at all three levels. Contact me if you would like to assist.

We have three Regional Gatherings that have been approved. The first is "Liberty Bell" in King of Prussia, PA, west of Philadelphia on October 17-19, details at dvm.us.mensa.org/rg. After that, we have Winter Solstice by CPaM in December, and Snowball by CNJM in February. There is at least one more RG and a mini-G in the works. For those who are not familiar, the mini-RG is an unstructured event, without program, more like a weekend-long Open House. They can be very successful; some provide food, such as Miami Mensa's, which is held in the Florida Keys, while others don't, like Boston Mensa's, which is held on Cape Cod.

See you next month.
