I know from experience that newsletter editors have schedules to maintain, so I am going to attempt to have my column ready for the first of the previous month. I got my July CapM from MWM, and sure enough, the column I wrote for July was received in time. I am looking forward to reading your newsletters, which should start arriving this month.
The preparation for the AG is complete. People are bustling to get the last minute details sown up. Linda and I registered, and will be leaving next Tuesday on our adventure. We sat down and determined what states that we have yet to visit, and what sights to see. This is the point of AGs and RGs, it gives the Mensan a chance to view the sites, and gives them a friendly destination for the trip. The AG is in St. Paul, Minnesota this year, and is a joint venture with Canada Mensa. For those who aren't familiar, the AG (Annual Gathering) is traditionally and statutorily held around July 4th weekend. The ABM (Annual Business Meeting) is on Thursday of the week, and that will be when my term will begin. The AMC (American Mensa Committee) meeting will be on Saturday, and hopefully, the new officers will be able to get off to a good start.
For further explanation, "Linda" is my wife of five years, and will get the much-deserved rest, since I will be in meetings the whole week. There is a picture of her and me on my website in the Mensa section. That is another good reason for attending a gathering, for Linda and I met through Mensa, at what Broward Mensa calls a Pub Nite.
I have submitted my goals to the AMC for the coming year. My major goals include having an LDW (Leadership Development Workshop) for future leaders of Region 2, and assisting where requested by the local groups. When the workshop plans are firming up, and the funding is available, I am going to ask each of the local groups to choose at least one member of their ExComm that they want to attend. It will be open to all interested members of the local ExComms, but I will urge each group to send at least one representative. Delaware Valley Mensa is planning a mini-RG in the spring in Philadelphia, and that would be a good place for the meeting, if things work out. I have asked your leaders to provide me with input on their wants and expectations, and I will use this information for planning. If anyone would like to help with the LDW, I would appreciate your getting in touch with me. Marc Lederman is handling the Internet end, and we could use the help of someone who would be willing to be the Coordinator.
I hope to see many of you at the AG, and am planning on attending your RGs. In the meantime, I am available at ed@edgor.com, and the website is www.edgor.com.
