    PRP 2010

Let the PRP pursuit begin! Applications and guidelines are now available for American Mensa's 2010 Publications Recognition Program. Much of the entry process can be done online.  The deadline for postmark and/or upload is Monday, March 1.

Awarded for individual contributions as well as newsletters and Web sites overall, the PRPs recognize excellence and creativity in Local Groups of all sizes, regardless of the thickness of the newsletter, total bandwidth of the Website, or the level of experience of the volunteer. It's exciting to hear your name (or those of your contributors) called at the Awards Luncheon at the Annual Gathering!

Please be sure to give yourself enough time to gather the necessary officer signatures, particularly if the relevant officers live great distances from each other. Early submissions are encouraged and deeply appreciated! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Thomas George Thomas, 2010 PRP Chair.

Seeking Nominations for the Mensa Distinguished Teacher Award

The Mensa Education and Research Foundation is seeking nominations for its annual award which recognizes a teacher, professor or instructor at any educational level who has had an especially positive influence on the education or life of a Mensa member.
The educator can impact the Mensa member directly or as a result of their influence on the education of a dependent. The Mensa member may submit the recognition letter for themselves or their dependent. A joint submission is encouraged if a dependent's educator is being recognized.
Award applications are available online at the Foundation’s website at www.mensafoundation.org. Completed forms must arrive by
April 15, 2010.

Take the Mensa Home Test challenge!

There are a lot of "IQ tests" online these days, but ours is a formally developed, normed — and fun! — home test that will give you a true sense of your brainpower. Oh, and it'll give you an idea if you qualify for Mensa. The Mensa Home Test is not accepted for Mensa admissions and will only be scored for those age 14 and older.

The test is fun for friends and colleagues who enjoy games and puzzles, and it will also give them an idea of how they'd fare on the Mensa Admissions Test.  Buy the Mensa Home Test online and have it mailed wherever you like, then return it to be professionally scored.

Seeking nominees for National Nominating Committee (NomComm)

Volunteering on the National Nominating Committee is a great opportunity for Mensans who know a
lot of good members and would like to encourage them into leadership roles. And it’s a role that,
while important to the future of the organization, does not require a huge investment of time. Interested? Contact your LocSec!

Local Ombudsmen to elect National Ombudsman in 2010

Earlier this year, American Mensa members voted to amend the Bylaws governing the selection of
the National Ombudsman. The Local Group Ombudsmen must now elect the National Ombudsman from among their number, with each group having only one vote.

Any Local Group Ombudsman who wishes to stand for election to the position of National Ombudsman must submit his or her candidate information as required by the Rule for Election of National Ombudsman to the Election Committee. Candidate information must be received by the Election Committee on or before March 31, 2010 . Copies of the Acceptance of Nomination form and the 2009 Code of Election Procedures are available from the National Office via email or on the website.

Candidates, please send your information to the Election Committee Chair, Deborah Henry by email
or by regular mail to 1182 Wildflower Lane, Maineville, OH 45039 .

Mind Games® is an intense weekend of play. The Mensa Mind Games® competition provides an opportunity for game manufacturers to compete in one of the most respected and recognizable national games competitions, while having their games reviewed by some of the nation's most avid game-players — members of American Mensa. Mensans judge and critique games released in the past year and award the coveted Mensa Select® seal to the top five. Board games, card games and other types of table and party games are eligible. Games are judged on aesthetics, instructions, originality, play appeal and play value. Judges fill out comment cards for each game.

Mind Games® 2010 will be held April 16-18 at the San Diego Hilton, Mission Valley,
901 Camino Del Rio South, San Diego, CA 92108; 800/682-6099.

2008-2009 Community Activities Program

Many Mensa Local Groups make their communities better by participating in community service activities. These community service efforts are recognized yearly by the national Community Activities Program (CAP). As well as providing recognition, the program encourages Local Groups to share their experiences and ideas with other Local Groups. Members of Local Groups participate in any community service activity they choose and enter their projects (and results) in the program. Over the years, over 200 entries have been submitted. There were 17 entries last year.

CAP is NOT a competition or contest. All legitimate entries will receive the public recognition and appreciation that they so rightfully deserve during the Annual Gathering, and will be listed in the Bulletin. The CAP entry form, in PDF format, can be found on the American Mensa Website (login required). After filling out the form, have it signed by the Local Secretary, and send it to the National Office by May 1st. The Community Services Committee members look forward to reading about and celebrating your community service activity.

Scholarships and Awards
